Competition and Pathway Opportunities

Affiliation provides competition and pathway opportunities in Special Olympics for all eligible people with intellectual disabilities and/or autism participating in registered affiliate programs.

The benefit of Special Olympics competition pathway is that athletes of all ability levels are encouraged to participate, and every athlete is recognised for their performance.

Competitions are structured so athletes compete with other athletes of similar ability in equitable divisions. Within Special Olympics we call this ‘divisioning’.
 

Promotion and Awareness

We are part of a global inclusion movement which supports over 5 million athletes, 1 million coaches and volunteers, more than 100,000 competitions each year, and 32 Olympic-type sports through programs in more than 170 countries.

• Co-branded activities and programs to show the value in working together as a force for good
• Access to Special Olympics support documents and sport rules
• Competition opportunities
• Educational opportunities to coaches through online learning
• Referrals for new athletes to your program

Our Partnership

Through affiliate programs, Special Olympics Australia recognises and supports community sporting clubs, associations and centres which strive to create an inclusive environment for people with an intellectual disability and/or autism.
